'Candy game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor said, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were getting ready for bed and request they to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the man had played this game with the boys "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the next day.
She stated the man had been able to explain this for many years as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had concerns in recently.
The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepson had suspicions about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC stated objects including lubricant, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his family member contacted the police about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben went on to play the "treat game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating Leicestershire Police's handling of the situation.
The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.
