Congress Greenlights Legislation to Release Epstein Documents

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of case documents associated with the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a almost unanimous vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. The White House gave in after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a case that has plagued the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Approval in Congress

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, expediting the process. Hours earlier, the House voted decisively for the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have waited long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” the top Senate Democrat declared in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Ensure full disclosure.”

Next Steps

This legislation next goes to Donald Trump for his endorsement. He stated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though the president has for an extended period rejected the controversy over the official management of the investigation as a “Democrat hoax”, he expressed his backing for the legislation over the past few days, and announced he would sign the measure if it is presented to him.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with victims and their supporters who were present in a House gallery, cheered after the bill was passed. The only opposition came from a Louisiana Republican, who stated he feared the measure would make public personal information of people, persons of interest and others implicated in the investigation.
